A Journey Through Lifecycles
At Happycrew, we believe that the best learning happens when curiosity is ignited and children are given the chance to explore the world around them with wonder. We've been doing just that through our exciting exploration of lifecycles, culminating in a magical transition into the fascinating world of mini beasts.

Rounding Off Lifecycles
Over the past few weeks, the children have been learning about how living things grow and change. Our learning began with the much-loved story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The book served as a beautiful and accessible introduction to the concept of metamorphosis and allowed us to observe how something as small as a caterpillar can transform into a beautiful butterfly. We supported the story with real-life experiences, watching our own caterpillars grow, build cocoons, and finally emerge as butterflies. The children were mesmerised by this hands-on experience, and we were able to talk about the different stages of the lifecycle using language-rich conversation, storytelling, and creative activities.

Bug Hunts & Forest School Fun
As we rounded off our work on butterflies and lifecycles, we moved naturally into our next focus-mini beasts. We are gearing up for bug hunts and explorations in our outdoor spaces and Forest School area. Armed with magnifying glasses and mini-clipboards, our little explorers will search high and low for creepy crawlies. From spotting wriggly worms to discovering ladybirds nestled in the leaves, every moment is going to be a chance for hands-on learning.
We will encourage the children to observe, ask questions, and draw what they saw, helping them develop their vocabulary, curiosity, and understanding of the natural world.
Why It Matters
Through themes like lifecycles and mini beasts, we're giving children the chance to develop a deep connection with the natural world. These experiences support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) goals in understanding the world, communication and language, and personal, social, and emotional development. By observing lifecycles, caring for living things, and respecting the tiny creatures around them, our children are becoming thoughtful, engaged, and environmentally conscious individuals.
What's Next?
We'll continue our exploration of nature throughout the summer term, following the children's interests and extending their learning through stories, science, art, and outdoor play. We can't wait to see what they discover next! Keep an eye on our social media for photos and updates-and if you haven't already, pop in to see our Bug Hotel for yourself.
As always, thank you for being part of the Happycrew family. We’re so proud of everything your little ones are doing – and we love sharing the journey with you.
