Hi Happycrew Families,
Birdwatching in St Albans is such a simple, calming way to get outdoors - especially with children. Local spots like Verulamium Park, Heartwood Forest and the River Ver are brilliant for spotting robins, blue tits, great tits, ducks and even the odd heron if you’re lucky.
But you don’t even need to leave home to enjoy birdwatching…
Make a super-easy lard toilet roll bird feeder
You’ll need:
An empty toilet roll tube
Lard or suet
Bird seed
String or garden twine
How to make it:
Spread softened lard all over the toilet roll tube
Roll it in bird seed until it’s well covered
Thread string through the middle
Hang it on a tree branch or fence
That’s it! The birds love it, and it’s a great way to encourage wildlife right outside your window. Plus, children can keep an eye out for which birds visit first.
