Where Little Explorers Grow Big Dreams.

Hello Happycrew families.

As we jump into July, we’re celebrating a term full of fun, friendships, and learning. We are currently exploring the book Handa's Surprise, a beautifully vibrant story perfect for exploring new cultures, fruits, and friendships.

Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne is a much-loved early years story that’s packed with learning opportunities. Here's what makes it so great for nurseries and early years settings:

Cultural Exploration

Set in Kenya, the story introduces children to different landscapes, clothing, and ways of life. It’s a lovely way to spark early conversations about the wider world.

Healthy Eating & Fruit Exploration

Handa carries a basket of seven delicious fruits to surprise her friend Akeyo. Great for:

Fruit tasting
Naming and sorting fruitsTalking about colours, textures and healthy choices
Animal Fun
From sneaky monkeys to gentle elephants, animals play a cheeky role in the story! It’s ideal for:

Literacy & Sequencing

The repetitive, rhythmic text is brilliant for:

Retelling and sequencing the story
Encouraging prediction (“What do you think will happen next?”)

The unexpected twist at the end offers a chance to talk about feelings, surprises, and kindness.

Join us for a fun-filled morning at Happycrew with activities, tours, and the chance to meet other families. A perfect opportunity to celebrate the summer together. Saying Au Revoir & Welcome Back

Ruby will be heading off travelling from 16th July through early September. We’ll miss her hugely and wish her the most amazing time in Bali. As we send Ruby off we’re thrilled that Alanna is returning this month after her own travels. The children adore her and we know you’ll be just as happy to see her back in action.
